Antlers are not only beautiful but they provide protection from predators. Deer antler provides good defense against wolves, coyotes, foxes and other animals. However, if your dog does not have enough courage to chew it then you need to think about giving him something else instead. You can give him bone or meat bones which are safer for your dog because they don’t contain any marrow inside them. If your dog likes to eat bones, then you can make some yourself.
Dogs love meat bones and will happily devour them even without chewing. Meat bones are very easy to prepare and require no special equipment. You just need a butcher shop or grocery store nearby where you buy the necessary ingredients. You can also use frozen meat bones which are much easier than fresh ones.
There are many recipes online for making homemade meat bone soup or chicken bone broth.
You can also give your dog bone treats made out of meat bones. These are very tasty and will certainly keep your dog’s appetite satisfied.
If you want to give your dog something else besides bone, then you can try giving him a piece of chicken leg or turkey thigh. Chicken legs are very high in protein content compared to most other meats so they are great for dogs. Turkey thighs and duck necks have similar protein contents too.
You can give your dog a small piece of steak, but make sure that it is no more than 1 cm thick and no bigger than the size of your palm. Do not give him too much or he will get fat very quickly. I recommend giving him 1 small piece of meat per week, no more than that.
You can also give your dog a small amount of organ meat such as heart or liver once every 2-3 months. You can give him a small amount of bread but no more than 1 slice per day. Other carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes, corn or peas are fine too, just keep the portion size small.
One other item that your dog might like is fruit. You can give him a small amount of apple, pear or banana once every 2-3 days. Oranges and strawberries should be avoided since the acidity level is very high in these fruits.
Of course, you should not give your dog junk food such as chips, hamburgers or pizza. These are very bad for your dog’s health and can cause many different health problems. Always remember that a dog’s digestive system is not designed to digest high calorie food.
You should also not give your dog any alcohol or tobacco since these are extremely bad for his health and can even lead to death.
