Chihuahua vs Shih Tzu Puppy Mixes: What’s The Difference?

The first thing to understand is that there are two types of small dogs; the large breed dog (i.e. Great Dane, Labrador Retriever) and the miniature breed dog (i.e. Pomeranian). These two breeds have different needs when it comes to their puppy years.

When a person purchases a puppy from a breeder, they’re usually buying one of these two breeds. A great Dane or Labrador Retriever puppy will need lots of exercise and play time during its early days with its new family. They’ll probably spend most of their day sleeping, but they’ll be happy to wake up and enjoy life!

A pug or a Maltese puppy, however, will need a lot less attention than a great Dane or Labrador Retriever puppy. They’ll likely sleep all day long while your pup enjoys his/her new surroundings. A pug or a Maltese may even nap during the night!

Your pup will be happy to go back to sleep after eating dinner!

A person who wants a small dog, but doesn’t want the hassle of taking it for long walks or play times may choose a miniature breed. A shih tzu or a poodle are both considered miniature breeds. Both of these dogs don’t really need much exercise and they’re very quiet indoors.

They’re happy to sleep during the day and play at night.

Many people like getting a dog because they’re extremely cute and adorable as a puppy. Unfortunately, many people fail to appreciate what type of effort is required to own a pet. Some people are disappointed when their little puppy isn’t as active or never gets dirty.

A Chihuahua or Shih Tzu may be too quiet for these types of people.

One interesting fact about these two breeds is that a person can get a mixed breed between the two! In fact, there are several different types of mixes between Chihuahuas and Shih Tzus. If you’re looking for a good companion dog that doesn’t require as much exercise, a mixed breed could make a great choice!

Shih Tzu Chihuahua Mix

The first mix is the Shih Tzu Chihuahua mix. As the names imply, this mixed breed is mainly comprised of the two purebreds. Although both pure breeds are small dogs, this particular mix may have a larger build or be taller than average.

A Shih Tzu Chihuahua mix may range in height from under a foot to a maximum of 13 inches tall. They can also weigh anywhere from 7 pounds and up to 22 pounds. Today, these mixed breeds are very popular among celebrities and movie stars!

The personality of a Shih Tzu Chihuahua mix can vary greatly. This is because both purebreds have very different temperaments and traits. On average, these mixed dogs are alert and playful.

They also have a tendency to be very attached to one particular person in the family.

One thing that these pups do is shed a lot.
