Corgi Rottweiler Mix: What Is A Corgi Rottweiler Mix?
A crossbreed between a Corgi and a Labrador Retriever, the term “rottweiler” refers to any dog with these characteristics. They are very popular because they look like their parent breeds, but have some unique traits.
The most common breed of dogs known as “Rottweilers”, or simply “Bulldogs” are actually a hybrid between two different breeds: the Mastiff and the Bulldog. These two breeds were originally bred to hunt large animals such as deer, boar, etc., but over time they developed into larger and stronger dogs than either breed could handle alone. Therefore, they were crossed together to create the modern Bulldog.
In fact, there are several other breeds of dogs that have been created from these two breeds. However, the most famous and recognizable breed of all is the American Pitbull Terrier (APBT). Although it was not always intended that way, many people mistakenly believe that all pit bulls are actually APBTs. There is no truth to this; however, the name does seem to stick!
Here are some facts about the APBT:
The APBT is among the largest of dog breeds.
They typically have a lifespan of about 10-15 years.
The breed was originally bred in England, although today they are bred in many other countries.
They were bred to be a fighting dog; they were pitted against each other in a ring or a pit to fight for sport. This continues today in some places outside the U.S.
They are very muscular and strong; however, they are not as aggressive as people believe them to be. They are actually quite friendly with other dogs and even people if socialized properly.
Many famous people have owned APBTs, including Henry Ford, John Steinbeck and President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
APBTs come in a variety of colors, including fawn, red, white, black and chocolate. They also may have different facial markings.
Although pit bulls are no longer bred for fighting, many people are attracted to them because of this; after all, who would not want a dog that is willing to fight to the death for you?
This desire has caused the breed to fall victim to unscrupulous people who want to create the “ultimate fighting machine”. They mate two aggressive dogs together and force them to breed, hoping to get an offspring just as or more aggressive than its parents. However, this practice has detrimental effects on the puppies’ health, and can even be deadly. In fact, many shelter workers will not accept a pit bull because of this and will euthanize any pit bulls that are brought in.
Because of all this information on the APBT, one may wonder where the Corgi comes into play. The Corgi is another dog that was bred for herding, although they were bred to herd cattle instead of herding sheep. They were first bred in Wales and are a small dog with short legs and long bodies. They come in a variety of colors, including red, fawn, black, tan and white.
While both the Corgi and the APBT were bred for occupations involving animals, they do not make strange bedfellows; in fact, they create what some would consider the perfect pet. Corgis are very loyal and protective by nature, so they make great guard dogs. They also get along well with people and other animals. Due to their small size, they are not prone to do any serious damage if they were to bite someone.
Even though most APBTs will not display the aggressive behavior they were bred to have, they still need firm training. When training your pit bull, make sure that you establish yourself as the alpha of the pack. If you do this, then you should have no problems with your pit bull.
Pit bulls were originally bred for fighting, so they do have a higher than average amount of energy. When this energy is not directed towards something, they can become bored and start looking for trouble. When this happens you may find that your pit bull gets into things, tears up furniture, eats your plants or engages in other undesirable behaviors.pit bull can live in an apartment if they are walked daily, but they do best in a home with a yard. They are not really suited for living in an apartment.
If you are considering getting a pit bull, check your local laws first. Many areas have banned this breed or have restrictive laws pertaining to them. If you are allowed to have a pit bull, then you should also check into the rules and regulations that are in place. Some places require that the dog be muzzled whenever it leaves your property, others will require that the dog be put to sleep.
A common misconception is that all pit bulls are aggressive and will attack on command. This is simply not true, as there are plenty of pit bulls that live happy lives without ever biting anyone. The breed does have a reputation for being dangerous, but this can be blamed on the way they were originally bred.
Besides being loyal companions, pit bulls make great therapy dogs, as long as they have had proper socialization. Many physically and emotionally wounded veterans have fallen in love with this breed, as they are strong enough to withstand a loving hug. Families with small children can also benefit from this breed, because of their playful attitude and because they tend to be too large to be knocked over easily.
