The word “c” in some words means “cat”, while other words mean “dog”. These are the most popular dog breed names that begin with c.
1. American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) – A pit bull is a type of terrier.
They are often called “American Staffordshire terriers” or “Pit Bulls.” They have been used since the 18th century in England as guard dogs, but they were also used for fighting. Since then, they have become associated with gang violence and criminal activity.
There are two main types of pit bulls: American Pit Bull Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers. Some people call them “Bullies,” others say they are “Bully breeds.”
2. Australian Cattle Dog (ACD) – An Australian cattle dog is a small, sturdy dog commonly known as a shih tzu.
They were originally bred to pull carts and work in the fields, but they became famous for their loyalty and obedience to owners. Today, there are many different varieties of ACDs; some are smaller than Chihuahuas and weigh less than 20 pounds. Others are similar in size to Golden Retrievers.

Similar to the English Bulldog, they were bred long ago for hunting. They were used to track and chase prey in packs. Beagles average at about 27 pounds and stand about two feet tall.

4. Belgian Shepherd (Malinois) – The Belgian Shepherd is a “shepherd dog” bred to herd and guard.
Their size ranges from that of a Beagle to that of a Great Dane. They are known for their agility, endurance and intelligence.
5. Border Collie – The Border Collie was bred to herd livestock, primarily sheep.
They are very intelligent and can learn things quickly. They are used for competitions in which the dogs herd sheep. They have a reputation as one of the most intelligent breeds of dog.
6. Bull Terrier – The Bull Terrier is a small to medium-sized dog bred to fight.
They are extremely friendly and playful pets that love children, but they can be aggressive towards other dogs. They were originally bred for animal fighting but today they are mostly kept as pets. They are known for their strength, endurance and fighting spirit.
7. Chihuahua – The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog in the world, and was bred in Mexico as a companion dog.
They are extremely loyal to their owners and are often described as “fearless”, though they can be aggressive to other dogs.
8. Doberman Pinscher (Doberman) – The Doberman Pinscher is a guard dog.
They were originally bred in the 1880s for the sole purpose of being guard dogs. They are extremely fast and intelligent, though they can be aggressive.
9. English Bulldog – The English Bulldog is a stocky, muscular dog bred to fight.
They are extremely sweet and loving toward their owners but can be very aggressive toward other dogs. The English Bulldog has experienced a vast decrease in popularity in recent years due to the high percentage of health problems that it suffers from.
