Long haired dogs are beautiful breeds. They have gorgeous coats and their fur looks like velvet or silky material. Their eyes are always bright and they look very intelligent. Some of them have even been called “The smartest dog breed”.

There are two types of long haired dogs: those with short hair on top and those with long hair all over their bodies. There are many different kinds of these dogs. Most of them belong to the following breeds: Afghan Hound, Border Collie, Cocker Spaniel, Dalmatian, English Setter, Fox Terrier, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Poodle (Pug), Pointer (Pointer Crossbreed) and Saint Bernard.

These breeds have a variety of colors and patterns. They may be spotted, solid black, chocolate brown, silver gray, white, cream colored or any other color. Some of them have stripes or spots on their bodies. These dogs are known as “Gorgeous Hairy Breeds” because of their long hair which makes them look so beautiful!

They are very loyal and loving animals. They love children very much and will do everything for them. They are very intelligent and easy to train. You can teach them how to sit, stay, fetch and other fun tricks.

These dogs can be trained as guide dogs for the blind and are used by the police department. They are gentle with children.

Long haired dogs have a lot of hair that needs to be brushed daily. If you do not do this, their coats will become matted. It is important to keep their coats clean and dry to prevent skin infections and other illnesses. If you own a long haired dog you should take special care of it.

Some of these breeds have short hair on top but long hair down the sides of their bodies. This type of long haired dog is very easy to take care of. However, they shed their undercoat twice a year and will need to be brushed daily during this time.

Some of these breeds shed a lot and some do not shed at all. If you do not want hair all over your house, you should buy a shedding blade for your vacuum cleaner. Otherwise you can just live with the hair all over the house.

Afghan hound

Afghans have a long, thick white coat with a broad head and muzzled shaped like an owl’s. They have dark, coffee-colored eyes. Adult males weigh up to 90 pounds and stand up to 27 inches tall at the shoulder. Females weigh up to 70 pounds and stand up to 25 inches tall at the shoulder.

The Afghan hound is a hunting dog from Afghanistan. They have been known to hunt lions and birds. It was also used for tracking criminals. This breed does well with children but can be very attached to its owner and may not get along with other dogs.

It needs a lot of attention and training. The coat needs to be brushed once a week and the dog should not be allowed to go outside in the summer if it will not have access to air conditioning.

Labrador retriever

The Lab is a short, dense, strong-bodied dog with a broad head. It has a short, straight muzzle, and a wide skull with an obvious brow. The teeth should meet in a scissors bite. The thick tail is well covered with hair, reaching at least to the hock.

The Lab has fairly long legs and feet. The coat is thick, short and straight. The color can be black, yellow (Isabella) or a mixture of both (champagne).

The Labrador Retriever is a popular gun dog and working retriever of waterfowl. They are strong swimmers that usually are not afraid to enter water. They will typically seek out and want to be in the company of family members. Labs are often used as guide dogs for the blind, as search and rescue dogs and as drug sniffing dogs.

They also are very popular as family pets and can be good with children. The Lab’s coat needs regular maintenance such as brushing and combing.

Long-haired Chihuahua

The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog and can weigh between 2 and 6 pounds. It has a number of variations of long, medium and short coats. The Chihuahua’s eyes are large and brown and their ears are erect and pointed. They have a strong, muscular body and short neck.

The Chihuahua is a favored companion dog with a long history as a decoration. They are intelligent and eager to please but can be stubborn and very selfish. The Chihuahua can bark a lot and they sometimes snap when playing with other dogs. This breed can live in an apartment if they get enough exercise.

They can also live in a house without a yard if they have frequent walks. The coat needs daily care.

Long-haired German Shepherd

The German Shepherd is a large breed of dog that can vary in color, but most commonly appear in black, tan and red. They have a long, strong head with small, triangular ears. The teeth should form a scissors bite. The muzzle is bushy and the eyes are expressive.

The body is long, muscular and firm. The tail is furred and the paws are catlike. This breed has a wiry topcoat and an undersheet of fine hair.

The German Shepherd is intelligent, quick to learn and eager to please making it suitable as a guard dog. They are often used as police dogs, in the military, search and rescue work and as guide dogs. This breed needs to get plenty of exercise and room to move around.

The Pug is a small breed with a wrinkly forehead and muzzle. It has small, triangular ears and dark eyes. The muzzle is medium length and the teeth form a scissors bite. The Pug has a square body with a short, smooth coat.

This breed comes in shades of black, silver, fawn or apricot.

The Pug is a playful and cheerful breed that is easy to train. It makes an affectionate pet but can be stubborn at times. Pugs love human company and will follow their owners around all day if they can. The coat is easy to care for; it just needs to be brushed once or twice a week.


The Rottweiler is a large breed with a muscular build, hanging ears and a long muzzle. The Rottweiler has a short, smooth coat that can be black, brown, honey red or black with tan markings. The tail is traditionally docked. The Rottweiler has dark eyes and the teeth form an undershot bite.
