Old Golden Retriever – Caring For Your Dog As They Age

Golden Retrievers are known for their loyalty and affection towards humans. However, they do not always show it when there is something that needs attention or even if they don’t like what you have to say. A dog’s behavior may change drastically with time and sometimes even during the same day. Sometimes a dog will become aggressive or shy at times, but it doesn’t mean that he/she is no longer loyal or loving towards its owner!

It is true that golden retrievers are very intelligent dogs. But they still need human care. If you want your golden retriever to live a long life, then you must take good care of him/her. You must make sure that he/she gets enough exercise and sleep every night so that he/she doesn’t get too old before your eyes! You have to feed them right because they won’t eat anything else except fresh food everyday.

And lastly, you have to keep them happy and healthy by giving them love and affection.

Here is a list of some things that you should consider doing:

1) Feeding Your Golden Retriever Daily : When feeding your golden retriever daily, it means that you give him/her something new everyday.

Some of the foods that you can feed your dog are: chicken, beef liver, fish, turkey meat (with skin), rabbit or eggs. You may also feed them vegetables and fruits such as green beans, carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, apples, bananas and pears. Don’t forget to give them some of their vitamins too!

2) Training Your Dog : Training your dog is also essential if you want to keep him/her under control.

Make sure that you start early before they become older because it will be harder to train them when they become stubborn. When training them, you can either use positive or negative reinforcement to let them know what you want from them. As for treats, it is suggested that you use their favorite ones when they do something good.

3) Give Them Lots Of Exercise : As with any other dog breeds, it is recommended that you give your golden retriever some exercise everyday.

This is so that they can keep themselves fit and will sleep a lot less at night. Just a 15 to 30 minute walk should be enough to tire them out. If you have a backyard, then you can let them run around there as long as you supervise them.

4) Play With Your Dog : If you don’t have that much time to go out with your dog, then you can always play with them indoors.

There are some toys such as flying discs, tennis ball launchers and so on, which will keep them entertained with you. Remember not to ignore your dog even if you don’t have that much time to spend with them.

5) Give Them A Bed To Sleep On : Dogs need a place where they can sleep and feel safe.

This is why you should always give them a bed or blanket to sleep on. This will also become their secure place where they can retreat when they are afraid or anxious about something. It would be best if you let them pick out their own blankets!

6) Train Your Dog To Get Used To A Crate : If you travel a lot or have friends coming over to your house, then it would be best to train your dog to stay in a crate.

This is basically a cage that they can stay in when you are not around to watch them. However, it is important to note that you should only use this as a last resort! You should train them to get used to the crate with small intervals of time.
