Bassin: The Walrus Dog – A Guide To The Shar Pei Basset Hound Mix
A walrus dog is a hybrid between a basset hound and a shiba inu. They are generally smaller than their respective breeds, but not quite small enough to qualify as miniature dogs. There are several varieties of walruses, some being larger than others. The most famous variety is the giant walrus (Odobenus rosmarus).
These animals grow up to 30 feet long and weigh over 100 tons!
Walruses have been used as food and fur since prehistoric times. Their meat is considered delicious, though they do tend to be leaner than other types of fish. However, walruses are very hardy creatures and can survive harsh conditions such as freezing temperatures or even exposure to salt water. Walruses are one of the few species that can live in both fresh and brackish waters without dying from starvation.
There are two main subspecies of the walrus, which include the Atlantic and Pacific. The Pacific is smaller than the Atlantic though they both share similar traits. The males grow long tusks that eventually curve backward and can reach 2 feet long. They use these tusks for fighting each other, but they also use them to pull themselves out of the water or onto ice.
Their large bodies and short legs make movement on land a slow process, as they can only move at about half a mile per hour. This is why they tend to live near the water. They also tend to prefer shallow waters so they can easily access the ice, since they spend a lot of their lives on it.
The Atlantic walrus can be found in the Arctic Ocean around Greenland, the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, and even Svalbard.
